Meet our Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel Jim Bunyak

Lieutenant Colonel Jim Bunyak hails from western Pennsylvania, where he was a three sport athlete. After high school he attended Frostburg State University in Maryland where he played college basketball and baseball. While at Frostburg he joined Army ROTC and graduated in 1997 as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a degree in International Studies. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Active Duty Army.
LTC Bunyak has led soldiers at every level, in peacetime and war. He began his career at Fort Stewart, Georgia where he was a Platoon Leader and Company Commander. After Command LTC Bunyak attended graduate school and earned a Master of Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology. He was then assigned to the US Army Forces Command where he served as a strategic planner for all Army forces stationed in the continental US.
In 2007, LTC Bunyak deployed to Baghdad, Iraq where he was embedded with an Iraqi Military unit. He was responsible for training, advising, and conducting combat operations with the Iraqi soldiers. During his 12 month deployment he earned the Combat Action Badge and a Bronze Star for his actions.
After a tour at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, LTC Bunyak joined the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. In 2012, he deployed with the unit to eastern Afghanistan and provided all logistical support to the 7,000 soldiers deployed in the mountains along the border of Pakistan. He earned a second Bronze Star during his time in Afghanistan.
LTC Bunyak was then selected to serve at the highest level in the Army as part of the Headquarters Department of the Army staff. He spent a year at the Pentagon developing Army policies.
LTC Bunyak holds a Masters Degree in Higher Education from University of Louisville and for the last four years, he has served as the Director and Professor of Military Science and Leadership at The Ohio State University. In his current position, he is responsible for coaching, teaching, mentoring, and developing OSU Army ROTC students. He leads a battalion of nearly 200 student cadets at Ohio State and delivers a leadership curriculum to the future leaders of the Army. The Cadets under his command will graduate from Ohio State and serve as officers in the Army.
His awards and decorations include two Bronze Stars, four Meritorious Service Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, and two Army Achievement Medals. He also earned the Parachute Badge, the Army Staff Identification Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.
